Butler PoliceTuesday — Gregory P. Mazzanti, 34, of Butler was charged with felony shoplifting stemming from an incident last month at the Kmart store at Pullman Square.Police said Mazzanti on Sept. 28 stole merchandise from the store. Officers later found him with the items in the area of Pillow Street. The alleged crime was captured on Kmart surveillance video, court documents said.Police charged Mazzanti, who has three prior felony convictions, with a felony count of retail theft.While normally a summary or misdemeanor offense, retail theft is upgraded to a third-degree felony regardless of the stolen property’s value when a defendant has at least two prior arrests for the same crime.

Adams Township Police11:38 p.m. Oct. 13 — Police were called to a house on Ledge Rock Lane for a report of a domestic disturbance.After interviewing the wife of Jared P. Weber, 31, police allege that he had earlier that night become angry, punched and shattered a glass microwave door and assaulted her, according to court records.She had red marks on her neck, ear and face, where he allegedly struck her multiple times. The incident reportedly started when she asked him to help take care of their two young children, who were present during the alleged assault.He is charged with simple assault, two counts of endangering the welfare of children and harassment. He is free on $5,000 bail.

Butler Township Police7:46 a.m. Monday — No one was hurt in a three-vehicle wreck at Route 422 and Greenwood Drive.The crash happened when a vehicle driven by Michael S. Chopp, 50, of Butler turned onto Route 422 and collided with a vehicle driven by Craig Perry, 38, of Butler.Following the collision, according to a police report, Perry’s vehicle was pushed into a car driven by Justin Knox, 29, of Butler. Chopp’s vehicle had to be towed away.Police cited Chopp for making an improper left turn.

Mars Police2:48 p.m. Sept. 5 — A borough man allegedly assaulted his girlfriend in his residence on Lincoln Avenue.Franklin M. Smith, 21, allegedly choked, kicked and threw down the 21-year-old victim, according to court records.She told police that she had bruised ribs, rub burn on her face and bruising on her arm, shoulder and leg. He also allegedly left the house with her phone, keys and bank card, though she froze her account before he could withdraw any funds. She later obtained a protection from abuse order against him.Smith was charged last week with three counts of simple assault, three counts of harassment and criminal attempt — theft by unlawful taking.

Slippery Rock University PoliceTuesday — Three Ellwood City teenagers were charged in connection with a drugged driving arrest last month near the Slippery Rock water tower path on campus. Police found the teens Sept. 27 in a sport utility vehicle that was parked in the center of a path.The officer smelled a “very strong odor” of burned marijuana coming from the vehicle, according to court documents. The driver, Jodi M. Iddings, 18, appeared to be impaired.Iddings was eventually taken for a blood test, which showed she had marijuana in her system, documents said.David G. Deloia, 18, a backseat passenger, was searched and caught with three marijuana joints in his waistband, police said. The officer found an additional joint on Deloia’s seat.Police also found rolling papers, two marijuana pipes, a marijuana grinder and other drug contraband inside a backpack belonging to Iddings’ front passenger, 19-year-old Logan C. Gibbons.Iddings is charged with driving under the influence of a controlled substance. Deloia is charged with four counts of possession of a small amount of marijuana. Gibbons is charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.

State Police, ButlerTuesday — A Mercer County teenager was charged with drunken and drugged driving after police found him about 2:30 a.m. Sept. 21 with his sport utility vehicle, that was pulled over with a flat tire in Slippery Rock.The suspect, Derek S. Cameron, 19, of Mercer, admitted that he was driving the SUV, which had struck a curb on Franklin Street. While talking to Cameron, the officer smelled alcohol coming from him and suspected he was intoxicated.He admitted having smoked marijuana about four hours earlier, according to court documents. He was eventually arrested and taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for a blood test.Toxicology reports subsequently showed Cameron had marijuana, alcohol and the anti-anxiety medication clonazepam in his system, documents aid.He is charged with driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol, DUI by a minor, disregarding traffic lanes and careless driving.Oct. 12 — A 27-year-old man allegedly broke into an apartment at the Campus Side Apartments’ complex in Slippery Rock Township. Burglary and theft charges are pending against the suspect, who police did not identify.

State Police, Clarion10:10 a.m. Oct. 10 — Braxston Stewart, 18, of Rimersburg lost control of his car and crashed into a stop sign before ending on top of a guardrail on Stoney Lonesome Road in Clarion Township. Police cited Stewart for driving at an unsafe speed.

State Police, Kittanning11:43 a.m. Wednesday — Numerous syringes were found in a farm field on Smith Road in West Franklin Township. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call police at 724-543-2011.1:24 a.m. Wednesday — A 47-year-old Butler woman, who police did not identify, was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence on Route 422 in East Franklin Township. Police said DUI charges are pending toxicology results.9:41 p.m. Tuesday — A pickup truck driven by Jessica A. Cousins, 27, of Kittanning struck a deer on Route 422 in East Franklin Township. Neither Cousins nor a passenger was hurt, but her truck had to be towed.
