Man sentenced for stealing car parts

A 29-year-old Mercer County man, jailed for stealing car parts, was ordered to pay nearly $20,000 in restitution to a Slippery Rock Township salvage yard.

Jacob A. Crawford, who pleaded guilty to a felony count of theft, was sentenced Thursday by Butler County Judge William Shaffer to serve 6 to 23 months in prison followed by 50 months of probation.

According to court records, Crawford stole 105 catalytic converters and four aluminum wheels from Kennedy Diversified on Route 8 in May.

The defendant allegedly returned to the scene of the crime a month later, and allegedly stole a large amount of brass. And a week after that, according to court documents, he made off with a dozen more aluminum wheels, additional scrap metal and other item.

Court records allege a surveillance camera at the business helped police identify Crawford as the suspect.

Crawford, who was given credit for 25 days of time served in prison awaiting resolution of this case, still has felony charges of theft pending in Crawford County Court and misdemeanor charges of theft pending in Mercer County Court.
