Motorist accused of assaulting officer

CRANBERRY TWP — A township woman is accused of assaulting a police officer during the course of a DUI arrest earlier this month.

Jessica M. Winchman, 31, was charged with felony aggravated assault — injury to police following an incident on the night of Oct. 9. She is free on a nonmonetary bail.

An officer with the township police pulled Winchman over after she allegedly sideswiped another vehicle on Powell Road, according to the criminal complaint.

Police also found the front bumper from her Toyota Camry at the intersection of Powell Road and Freedom Road, which they believe fell off when she hit a concrete curb there.

She appeared to be intoxicated and was allegedly not cooperative when talking to the officer, who saw multiple liquor bottles in the car. She was taken to UPMC Passavant hospital to have her blood drawn, but became violent outside the building, kicking one officer in the chest.

---- Winchman also is charged with DUI, accident involving damage to an attended vehicle and several traffic violations including failure to notify police of accident and restrictions on alcoholic beverages.
