Freeport, Mars win section titles

Karns City, SV, CWNC also roll along in boys soccer

Bryce Hanby scored in overtime to give Freeport a 2-1 boys soccer win over Deer Lakes Thursday, earning for the Yellowjackets their first section title since 1999.

Kevin Lynch scored midway through the second half to tie the match at 1-1.

Hanby's game-winner was scored off an assist by Stevie Teorsky and goalkeeper Austin Uric stopped 18 shots for Freeport (13-1-1, 11-0-1).

Mars 2, Hampton 0 — Corey Heim and Zane Mundy both scored a goal as the Planets wrapped up a section title.

Mars improved to 13-1-1 overall and finished the section schedule at 11-0-1.

Karns City 8, DuBois Central Catholic 0 — Spenser Myers continued his assault on the net with five goals as Karns City routed the Cardinals.

Jace Ebbitt, Noah Pollock and Marcus Lantz also scored for the Gremlins (15-0).

Ebbitt had an assist, which gives him 26 on the season — a Karns City record.

Knoch 7, Highlands 0 — Caleb Robb had three goals and Eli Keller scored twice for the Knights in this Section 1-AAA win.

Jake Goldinger and Mark Ciora also scored for playoff-bound Knoch (8-7-2, 7-3-2).

Seneca Valley 1, Bethel Park 0 — The Raiders remained unbeaten as senior forward Matt Happ scored the only goal on an assist from Noah Domencic.

Dylan Good earned the shutout with three saves for SV, which is now 14-0-1 overall.

Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic 3, Avonworth 0 — Joe Kearney scored all three goals for the Section 3-A champion Trojans (15-2-1, 13-0-1).

Girls Volleyball

Kristie Radvan had 13 points, five blocks and four kills as Freeport wrapped up its 11th consecutive section title with a 25-18, 25-18, 25-14 win over Derry.

Katie Zingaro added six kills and Claire Crytzer had 18 digs for the Yellowjackets (13-2, 11-0).

Knoch 3, Blackhawk 1 — Sarah Armahizer had 19 kills and 10 blocks as Knoch remained undefeated in section play with a 25-15, 22-25, 25-18, 25-16 win.

Abby Pospisil added nine kills and Makenzie McDowell had 14 service points for the Knights (13-1, 11-0).

North Allegheny 3, Butler 0 — The Golden Tornado lost by scores of 25-19, 25-22 and 25-21 despite five kills and three digs from Emily Archer. Erin Fullerton added five kills and three blocks.

A-C Valley 3, Mercer 0 — Josey Terwilliger had 14 kills and 15 digs in the Falcons' 25-14, 25-15, 25-14 sweep.

Olivia Boocks added 10 points, 10 digs and 11 kills and Kylee Eaton had 10 kills for A-C Valley.

Keystone 3, Karns City 2 — Brooke Moore had 18 points and 14 assists, but the Gremlins fell 25-10, 27-25, 17-25, 16-25, 14-16.

Mackenzie Craig added 12 points, nine kills and 11 assists for Karns City.

Boys Golf

Zach Brown and Scott Hangliter both carded a 77 as Seneca Valley placed fourth in WPIAL Class AAA with a 398-stroke effort at Cedarbrook Golf Course.

Central Catholic won the district title with a 378.

Girls Tennis

Knoch freshman Elle Santora beat Anne Taylor of Beaver 6-1, 6-1 to win the WPIAL Section 3-AA girls singles title earlier this week.

Santora will open the WPIAL singles finals against Katherine Marks of OLSH today.
