SV golf team in WPIAL finals

KC's Pennington, Butler volleyball pull off surprising wins Tuesday

Scott Hangliter and Paul Lopiccolo each shot a 78 to help the Seneca Valley boys golf team to a third place finish at the WPIAL Boys Golf Team Semifinals Tuesday and a spot in the WPIAL Class AAA Boys Team Golf Championships.

Adam Bushee shot an 83, Mark McNulty an 86 and Zach Brown a 90 to round out the Raiders' scoring.

Fox Chapel won the event and Central Catholic finished second.

The WPIAL team finals will be held Thursday.

Cross Country

Karns City's Rebecca Pennington pulled off a rare cross country feat.

The junior on the Karns City girls cross country team beat the competition — all the competition — with a time of 20 minutes, 33 seconds.

The time was good enough to win the boys race by nearly a minute.

The Moniteau girls won the meet, however, with Kendall Grossman, Samantha Hall, Gabby Stewart and Madison Cumberland taking the next four places for the Warriors.

The Moniteau boys also won, led by a second-place finish by Seth Nicodemus.

Eli Kowalski won the boys race for Karns City.

Boys Soccer

Spenser Myers scored five goals and Noah Pollock also scored as Karns City routed DuBois 6-2.

Pollock also had three assists for the Gremlins (14-0).

Freeport 13, Derry 0 — Bryce Hanby scored six goals and also had an assists in the Yellowjackets' rout.

Seth Davis added a pair of goals for Freeport.

Knoch 2, Indiana 0 — Matt Gore and Henry Palmer scored for the Knights.

Volleyball

Caitlyn Martin had 14 kills, 14 digs and three aces as Butler upset Pine-Richland in a dramatic five-game match 25-22, 16-25, 26-24, 22-25, 15-8.

Erin Fullerton had eight kills and five digs and Julia Gibson added seven kills for the Golden Tornado (5-6, 3-4).

Knoch 3, New Castle 0 — Kerrie Fitzpatrick had 16 service points as Knoch rolled New Castle 25-10, 25-15, 25-9.

Abby Pospisil added 10 points and five kills and Sarah Armahizer added nine kills for the Knights (12-1, 10-0).

Freeport 3, Valley 0 — Hannah Conner and Lauren Lampus each had four kills to lead the Yellowjackets to this 25-8, 25-8, 25-8 section win.

Kristie Radvan added eight points and three kills and Mackenzie Jack 10 points and three kills for Freeport (12-2, 10-0).

A-C Valley 3, Union 0 — The Falcons earned a 25-9, 25-9, 25-13 sweep of the Damsels.

Karns City 3, Moniteau 0 — Emily Hegedus had six kills as the Gremlins won 25-19, 25-13, 25-17.

Mackenzie Craig added four kills and Brooke Moore seven assists for Karns City.

No individual stats were available for Moniteau.
