Freeport rolls on

Volleyball, soccer post victories; Knoch spikers win

Freeport honored long-time coach Tom Phillips before its volleyball match against Burrell Tuesday night.

Phillips came in with 256 wins in his 15th year on the bench.

Make that 257.

Maddie Christy had eight kills and 16 service points as Freeport rallied from a 25-19 loss in the first set with 25-19, 25-20, 25-23 wins in the next three for the victory.

Kristie Radvan added 16 points, five kills and four blocks and Katie Zangero had nine blocks and seven kills for the Yellowjackets (9-1, 8-0).

Knoch 3, Central Valley 1 — Abby Pospisil tallied 14 service points and six kills to aid Knoch's road win.

The Knights won by scores of 25-22, 24-26, 25-12 and 25-14.

Sarah Armahizer added 14 kills, Bethany Nulph eight kills and Alley Kerkan 14 service points for Knoch (10-0, 8-0).

A-C Valley 3, Keystone 0 — Sydney Rankin contributed 16 service points, three aces, 14 assists and four kills to pace the Falcons (8-1).

Josey Terwilliger had 15 digs and seven kills, Emily Wetzel 10 digs and 11 assists, Olivia Boocks 11 digs and Kylee Eaton 12 kills in the 25-6, 25-9, 25-16 victory.

Butler 3, North Hills 1— Emily Archer had 21 kills and 13 digs as the Golden Tornado won 25-13, 25-19, 25-27, 25-20.

Erin Fullerton added 11 kills and eight digs and Caitlyn Martin pitched in 11 kills and 15 digs for Butler (4-4, 2-4).

Grove City 3, Wilmington 0 — Macguire Gubba had 10 points, 12 assists and nine kills as the Eagles swept Wilmington 25-17, 25-5, 25-14.

Hannah Santom added six points, 17 assists and six kills for Grove City.

DuBois Central Catholic 3, Union 1 —Frankee Remmick had six kills and 11 digs, but the Damsels lost 24-26, 25-14, 16-25, 28-30.

Hannah Atzeni added 23 assists for Union.

Redbank Valley 3, Karns City 0 — Mackenzie Craig had three kills for the Gremlins, who lost by scores of 25-10, 26-24, 25-17.

Boys Soccer

Zach Turley and Michael Zahorchak both scored to lift Seneca Valley to a 2-0 boys soccer win over Shaler at NexTier Stadium.

Dylan Good made five saves for the Raiders (10-0-1, 7-0-1).

Slippery Rock 7, Sharpsville 0 — Garrett Daugherty and Chase Baxa each scored a pair of goals to lead the Rockets (9-2).

Knoch 9, Armstrong 0 — Mark Ciora scored four goals and Caleb Robb added three to lead the Knights (6-7-1, 5-3-1).

Mars 4, Indiana 0 — Cory Ferguson scored two goals for the Planets.

Corey Heim and Colton Cyphert also found the net for Mars (10-1-1, 8-0-1).

Freeport 5, Highlands 2 — Robbie Reichenbaugh scored two goals and Kevin Lynch had a goal and an assist as the Yellowjackets remained unbeaten.

Stevie Teorsky and Cole Bennick also scored and Bryce Hanby had two assists for Freeport (10-0-1, 8-0-1).

Golf

Morgan Penn fired a 39 as Freeport improved to 16-2 with a 218-237 win over Northgate.

Seneca Valley junior Adam Bushee carded a 76 and tied for sixth place at the WPIAL Class AAA individual championship round at Oakmont Country Club.

Fox Chapel's Gregor Meyer won the district title with a 1-under-par 70.

Bushee's performance included a pair of birdies and moves him on to the PIAA Western Regional, scheduled for Oct. 17 at Tom's Run Golf Course in Blairsville.

Cross Country

Kendall Grossman finished second in the girls race for Moniteau and John Hovanec was the top boys finisher for the Warriors.

Rebecca Pennington won the girls race with a time of 20:34 for Karns City in a 20-43 loss to Cranberry.

Eli Cowalski and Blake Kelly finished ninth and 10th for the Karns City boys in a 15-50 loss to Cranberry.

Knoch's boys defeated Pine-Richland 23-33 and Shaler 18-45 as Max Freyermuth placed first overall. The Knight girls defeated Shaler 15-50 and lost to Pine-Richland, 27-29.
