Butler Police2:42 a.m. Wednesday — Nicholas J. Campbell, 34, of Butler was arrested after he allegedly tried to run from police on South Chestnut Street. Officers moments earlier learned that he was wanted on a bench warrant.Campbell, who was placed in the Butler County Prison for the warrant, is charged with flight to avoid apprehension or prosecution.Police said they spotted Campbell and another man walking on Wagner Avenue toward a convenience store on West Jefferson Street. The two men went behind the store and when they reappeared, Campbell had adjusted his clothing.The suspect, according to court documents, had pulled up his hooded sweatshirt, apparently in an effort to hide his identity. When officers checked if he was wanted, they found there was a warrant out for him in a trespassing case in June.The warrant was issued Sept. 21 after Campbell failed to appear for a court hearing, county court records showed.Police said they advised the defendant of the warrant after stopping him at South Chestnut and West Birch streets, but he ran off, leading officers on a short chase that ended when police found him hiding behind a Dumpster on Race Street, documents said.Campbell admitted he attempted his getaway because he knew about the warrant. He told police: “I didn’t want to go to jail.”

Butler Township PoliceThursday — Michele M. Musko, 31, of Butler Township was charged with drunken driving stemming from a traffic stop about 1:50 a.m. Sept. 17 on Fairground Hill Road near Campus Lane.Police said Musko appeared impaired and smelled of alcohol. She claimed she had one drink that night. Police said she was arrested after failing field sobriety tests.She was later taken to Butler Memorial Hospital but she refused to submit to a blood test, court documents said.Musko is charged with driving under the influence and a stop sign violation.Grove City PoliceSaturday — A vehicle was stolen from the driveway of a home in the 200 block of Blaine Street. The vehicle, a 1999 black Volvo V90 station wagon, was taken between 12:30 and 8:45 a.m.1:34 a.m. Saturday — Nathan P. Guiler, 20, of Mercer was arrested after he was caught with suspected marijuana after being stopped at a DUI checkpoint on West Main Street near the intersection of Memorial Park.Guiler is charged with possession of a small amount of marijuana.9 a.m. Sept. 23 — Police recovered a Grove City woman’s purse and other items that were stolen from her car overnight.Sept. 23 — Sometime between 6 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. Friday someone stole money from an unlocked vehicle in the 300 block of West Main StreetSept. 23 — An unknown thief overnight stole a wallet from a vehicle at the Grove Manor parking lot on North Broad Street. The wallet had an unspecified amount of money in it.Friday — Someone stole a political campaign sign from the yard of a home in the 400 block of Flower Avenue. The sign was taken between Sept. 21 and 23.7:19 p.m. Sept. 22 — An unidentified silver Hyundai drove into a yard in the 500 block of Craig Street, hitting a bush and shed and causing severe damage. The driver drove away without alerting the owners.Sept. 22 — An abandoned bicycle was turned over to police. The owner can claim the bike at the police station at 724-458-7925.

Butler County SheriffMonday — Dwane E. Crandell, 53, of Renfrew allegedly provided false information on a background check form to obtain a permit to carry a handgun.Crandell is accused of giving answers about his criminal record on the concealed carry application that were not truthful and was rejected by the Pennsylvania Instant Check System that is run by the state police.He is charged with unsworn falsification to authorities.

State Police, Butler6:30 a.m. Saturday — A Mexican native was arrested for drunken driving after police found him sleeping in the driver’s seat of a car in a pull- off area on Bull Creek Road near Mushrush Road in Winfield Township.The suspect, 40-year-old Jose A. Ortiz-Mendoza of Butler, smelled of alcohol and the car was still running, according to court documents. He was awakened and told police that he was coming from work in Valencia and headed back home.“He stated that he was still drunk and knew that he shouldn’t be driving,” according to a police affidavit, “and that’s why he pulled off of the road.”Police eventually took Ortiz-Mendoza for a breath test, which showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.151 percent. A level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated under state law.He is charged with driving under the influence and driving without a license.

Perry Township VFD12:45 p.m. Tuesday — No one was injured but a family was left homeless when fire destroyed their house in the 1300 block of Doc Walker Road in Perry Township, Clarion County.The woman and her young daughters were home but got out safely. The family’s two dogs also were unharmed. The woman’s husband was at work when the fire started.The cause of the fire was not immediately known but it was not considered suspicious, authorities said.Assisting in the call were volunteer firefighters from Perry Township, Callensburg, Sligo, Rimersburg, Parker and Emlenton.The Clarion County chapter of the American Red Cross also was called to assist the family with emergency needs.
