Michigan men jailed on credit fraud charges

CRANBERRY TWP — Two Michigan men were arrested Tuesday under suspicion of running a credit card fraud operation.

Eric L. Clark II, 26, and Demon D. Derrick, 27, both from the Detroit area, are in the Butler County Prison on $100,000 bail.

An officer with the township police discovered them sleeping in a Dodge Journey at 3 a.m. in the parking lot of the Hampton Inn on Executive Drive, according to court records.

Neither of them could give a reason for being in Pennsylvania when asked. When the officer asked for their identification, the officer allegedly observed Clark hide two credit cards under the seat of the car.

A search of the vehicle allegedly yielded 35 credit cards, including one with another man’s name on it, and a notebook containing 100 handwritten credit card account numbers.

The magnetic strips on the cards were blank and contained no information. This activity is consistent with cloning credit cards to make fraudulent purchases, according to records.

They were each charged with misdemeanor counts of criminal conspiracy and possessing instruments of a crime. They are scheduled to have a preliminary hearing Oct. 7 in district court.
