CHERRY TWP — At their board meeting Monday night, Moniteau School Board members approved Jeff Campbell as the district's new director of buildings and grounds.

Campbell held the position for 13 years and left the district in 2013 to be the custodial/maintenance supervisor for the Fox Chapel School District. There he supervised about 60 employees in the district's seven school buildings.

Campbell of Slippery Rock applied for the Moniteau position when Michael Wylie retired from the job in August.

Campbell, who will start Nov. 1, said he missed the Moniteau schools, the people and the community.

“It's a great place to work,” Campbell said.

Michael Panza, chairman of the board's buildings and grounds committee, said the board followed its usual application and hiring process. The board interviewed 13 applicants.

“We are very thrilled to have Jeff back and he will do great things, as he always did,” Panza said.

During Campbell's previous stint with the district, he also coached Moniteau varsity football for 13 years. He was head coach from 2006 to 2012 when the team was 40-28 including winning the District 9 championship in 2011.

In other business, the board:

Received a report on the results of the 2016 PSSA and Keystone tests from Lance Fox, Moniteau High School principal, and Dustin Thompson, Dassa McKinney Elementary School principal.

In the 17 categories covering grades 3 to 11, results for English and language arts, math, algebra, science and biology, Moniteau students were above or well above the state averages in 16 categories.

“Our students are scoring consistently higher than the state average and we're happy about that,” Fox said.

“We don't know how this will impact the school performance profile,” said Todd Amsler, high school assistant principal.

The Pennsylvania Department of Education has not yet released the 2016 school performance profiles for Pennsylvania school districts.
