Schiedel 100th birthday
Martha Belle O’Dell Schiedel celebrated her 100th birthday Sept. 21 at Concordia at Cabot Personal Care, 148 Marwood Road
A native of Chaffee, N.Y., she married Joseph Schiedel on Oct. 4, 1947, in Syracuse, N.Y.
The couple had three children. Thomas lives in New York; Margie resides in Norway; and Deborah lives in Massachusetts.
She also has eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
During World War II, Schiedel enlisted in the WAVES and served as a nurse at Bethesda Naval Hospital. Schiedel graduated from Bryant & Straton and Hurst Private Business College, and, after the war, worked as a secretary before becoming a full-time homemaker.
The Schiedels were residents in Haven I, then Haven II retirement apartments for several years. Together they enjoyed membership at St Luke Lutheran Church in Cabot. After Joe passed away in 2009, she moved to Lund Care Center.
She enjoys playing cards, puzzles, painting, bingo and TV sports programs.
Schiedel credits her secret to living to 100 years to honesty, faith in Christ and a daily nap.
