MIU director receives honor

Wayde Killmeyer
Wins for service to the profession

The executive director of the Midwestern Intermediate Unit IV, Wayde Killmeyer, is the recipient of the Pennsylvania Association of School Administrators’ 2015 Award for Service to the Profession.

The award is given annually to a school system leader who demonstrates a commitment to excellence, and the award will be presented to Killmeyer at the PASA-PSBA School Leadership Conference in October in Hershey.

Killmeyer has served as the executive director of MIU IV since 2013. He also participates in the Pennsylvania Association of Intermediate Unit Executive Directors, the Forum of Western Pennsylvania Superintendents and the HOPE Initiative, a regional task force dealing with the heroin and opioid problem.

In 2014, he proposed a committee of superintendents and executive directors from three other intermediate units create a forum to discuss issues relevant to our region. This forum of 75 superintendents and four executive directors became the Northwest Pennsylvania Superintendents’ Summit. After the success of the 2015 summit, another intermediate unit joined the forum, expanding to 90 superintendents for the 2016 event.

Pedro Rivera, Pennsylvania Secretary of Education, served as the keynote presenter.

Before joining the intermediate unit, Killmeyer served in principal and superintendent posts in school districts in Allegheny and Washington counties.

Killmeyer earned his bachelor’s degree in mathematics and computer science from the University of Pittsburgh, his master’s degree in English literature from the University of Maryland and his master’s degree in secondary mathematics education from Slippery Rock University. He earned his doctorate in educational leadership at Duquesne University.

The intermediate unit provides services to school districts in Butler, Lawrence and Mercer counties.
