Raiders clinch section title tie; Knoch spikers stay unbeaten

Seneca Valley's boys golf team clinched at least a share of the Section 3-AAA title with a 186-194 win over Pine-Richland Thursday at Treesdale Golf Club.

All five scoring golfers for the Raiders turned in sub-40 scores. They included Scott Hangliter (36), Paul Lopiccolo (36), Mark McNulty (37), Adam Bushee (38) and Zach Brown (39).

Butler 207, Knoch 212 — Nic Huff shot a 40 to lead Butler.

Knoch's Charlie Tanner was the medalist with a 38.

Freeport 201, Valley 298 — Mike Chahoy's one-under-par 35 is a career-low and included three birdies and five pars as the Yellowjackets (13-2 overall) remained perfect in Section 1-AA play at 11-0 with this victory at Buffalo Golf Course.

Girls Volleyball

Knoch remained perfect with a 25-16, 25-20, 25-22 sweep of visiting Hampton.

Abby Pospisil had 11 kills for the Knights (7-0, 6-0) while Sarah Armahizer added 10 kills and eight blocks, Carly Bozzo 15 digs and Makenzie McDowell 12 service points.

A-C Valley 3, Cranberry 0 — Josey Terwilliger had 10 kills, 10 service points and three aces as the Falcons rolled to a 25-14, 25-14, 25-9 win.

Olivia Boocks added 11 points and six aces and Sydney Rankin 14 assists for A-C Valley (5-1).

North Allegheny 3, Butler 0 — The Tigers claimed a 25-18, 25-13 and 25-15 victory.

Butler (3-3, 1-3) was led by Caitlyn Martin's six kills and eight digs and Maria Lucas' five kills and 11 digs.

Karns City 3, Clarion-Limestone 0 — Mackenzie Craig had seven kills, Emily Hegedus five kills and Brooke Moore 14 assists in the 25-9, 25-15, 25-15 win for the Gremlins.

Boys Soccer

Matt Happ and Zach McVicker each scored a goal as Seneca Valley blanked Butler, 2-0.

Dylan Good got the shutout in goal for the Raiders (7-0-1, 5-0).

Knoch 5, Highlands 0 — Caleb Robb scored three goals to help the Knights (3-6-1, 3-2-1) win for the third time in four games.

Matt Gore and Will Morgus both added one goal and Andy Pipes made six saves to preserve the shutout.

Freeport 3, Deer Lakes 1 — Kevin Lynch, Bryce Hanby and Robbie Reichenbaugh each scored a goal for the Yellowjackets.

Austin Uric stopped 16 shots in goal, including two penalty kicks, for Freeport (7-0, 6-0).

Karns City 12, Keystone 2 — Spenser Myers and Noah Pollock each scored four goals as the Gremlins rolled.

Jace Ebbitt and Marcus Lantz each added two goals for Karns City (7-0).

Girls Soccer

Megan McCartney scored three goals as Karns City blanked DuBois 5-0.

Haley Sherer and Chelsey Dodds also scored for the Gremlins (7-0).

North Allegheny 3, Butler 2 — The Golden Tornado (5-3) surrendered the deciding goal three minutes into the second overtime period Wednesday. Kelly Kriley and Liz Simms scored goals for Butler.

Butler's last two games have reached double overtime. The Tornado host section rival Seneca Valley at 7:30 p.m. Monday.

Cross Country

Kendall Grossman finished third with a time of 23:55 as the Moniteau girls fell to Cranberry 24-35.

The Moniteau boys also lost to Cranberry, 15-50.

A-C Valley ran against Clarion and Clarion-Limestone in a meet that had no team score. C-L's Hannah Rittenhouse won the girls race in 21 minutes, 36 seconds. Abigail Barris was fourth overall for A-C Valley in 24:07, Emily Klingler fifth in 24:33. Destiny Hunt was 10th.

Clarion's Adam Bettwy won the boys race in 17:32. A-C Valley's Ty Sapien was 11th.

Girls Tennis

Emily Gordon won her No. 1 singles match 6-0, 6-0 to lead Grove City to a 5-0 sweep of Kennedy Catholic.
