Butler Twp PoliceThursday — Police charged Coty A. Reed, 30, of Slippery Rock with illegally trying to buy a gun May 6 at Down Range Supply on Route 68. He is accused of lying on his applications to buy the gun.Reed was arraigned on two felony counts of giving a false written statement and two misdemeanor charges of making a false statement under penalty. He was released on his own recognizance following arraignment.Slippery Rock University PoliceTuesday — Police charged a Beaver County teenager with drugged driving stemming from a traffic stop about 2:10 a.m. Sept. 3 on Main Street in the borough.The suspect, Dane R. Mathesius, 18, of New Brighton, smelled of marijuana and alcohol when he got out of his car to talk with police, according to court documents.He failed field sobriety tests and a portable breath test indicated he had been drinking alcohol. He subsequently was taken to Grove City Medical Center for a blood test.Toxicology reports subsequently showed Mathesius had marijuana in his system, police said.In addition to driving under the influence of a controlled substance, he was charged with minors prohibited from driving with alcohol in their system, underage drinking and driving without head lights.State Police, ButlerTuesday — Police charged one man with drugged driving and another for marijuana possession in connection with a traffic stop Sept. 2 in Slippery Rock Township.A trooper stopped the suspects’ car after he saw the driver, Thomas R. Mills, 19, of New Castle, nearly lose control of it. When the officer got to the car, court documents said, he smelled a “strong odor” of marijuana.Mills appeared impaired and he allegedly admitted smoking marijuana earlier that nightA search of the car turned up a marijuana cigar and two unopened packages containing vaporizer cartridges filled with marijuana concentrate, documents saidMills’ passenger, Juwan L. Cobb, 22, of New Castle, claimed the drugs were his. Police said they also found him carrying a marijuana vaporizer cartridge.Later, Mills was taken for a blood test. Toxicology reports subsequently confirmed the presence of marijuana in his system.He is charged with driving under the influence of a controlled substance, driving on the wrong side of the road, driving with a burned out headlight, careless driving and reckless driving.Cobb is charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of a small amount of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.Tuesday — Trevor M. Haley, 22, of Washington Township was arrested for drunken driving in connection with a traffic stop last week on Slippery Rock Township.Police said they stopped Haley in the early morning Sept. 16 after they saw his car cross the double yellow line into oncoming traffic on West Liberty Street near Route 173.The defendant, who smelled of alcohol, admitted having three beers, according to court documents. A breath test later showed his blood-alcohol was 0.113 percent. A level of 0.08 is considered intoxicated under state law.Haley is charged with DUI, disregarding traffic lanes, failing to use turn signals and careless driving.3:35 p.m. Friday — Frank Jordan Jr., 61, of Butler Township was more than double the legal limit for alcohol after a hit-and-run crash in Franklin Township.Police suspect Jordan did not stop after his sport utility vehicle sideswiped another vehicle on Route 422. A trooper a short time later found the suspect passed out behind the wheel of his SUV at his home on Bredin Avenue.Jordan reeked of alcohol and was taken to the barracks for a breath tests, according to court documents. The test showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.214 percent.He is charged with DUI, hit-and-run, disregarding traffic lanes, careless driving and not wearing a seat belt.State Police, Kittanning5:49 p.m. Thursday — A traffic stop in South Buffalo Township netted police 24 stamp bags of suspected heroin. Charges are pending against two occupants, a 24-year-old woman and a 26-year-old man, both of Callensburg. Police did not identify either suspect.3:38 p.m. Thursday — Vehicle driven by Sonnia M. Greene, no age given, of Worthington and Tailyn D. Sammons, 33, of Kittanning collided on Route 422 in Plumcreek Township. Police said Greene was cited for following too closely to another vehicle.11:58 p.m. Saturday — An unknown vandal damaged a mailbox and post at a 43-year-old man’s home on the 500 block of Bear Road in West Franklin Township.
