Lopiccolo, Leone advance in golf

Butler's Savanna Turner returns a shot against Seneca Valley duiring their girls tennis match Wednesday. Turner won an epic 13-11 tiebreaker and the Golden Tornado scored a 3-2 victory.

Seneca Valley's Paul Lopiccolo and Butler's Nic Leone both carded a 75 to advance from the Section 3-AAA boys golf qualifier, held Wednesday at Treesdale Golf Club.

SV's Zach Brown (77), Adam Bushee (78) and Butler's Gage Terwilliger (80) also advanced to the WPIAL semifinal round, which will be held Tuesday at a site to be determined.

Freeport 229, Jeannette 280 — Morgan Penn shot a 42 to lead Yellowjackets (12-2, 10-0).

Girls Golf

Mars' Natalie Welsh shot a 76 at Rittswood Golf Course to qualify for the WPIAL Class AAA championship.

Girls Soccer

Tori Kopchak scored three goals as Mars (4-1-1, 4-1) routed Indiana 7-0.

Knoch 5, Springdale 0 — Maddie Albriatis scored three goals and also had an assist in the Knights' rout.

Lindsie Galbreath added two goals and Becca Stockert had five saves in the shutout for Knoch (3-4-2).

Girls Tennis

Savana Turner won an epic 13-11 tiebreaker in the second set and the doubles tandem of Jill Ford-Mercedes Belch did the same as Butler edged Seneca Valley 3-2.
