Numbers no worry for Vogan

Moniteau gets ready for winless Keystone

CHERRY TWP — Moniteau football coach Wade Vogan isn't getting caught up in the numbers.

And those numbers have been abysmal for Keystone, the Warriors' opponent Friday night.

To say the Panthers have struggled four games into the 2016 season is an understatement.

Keystone has lost four games by the scores of 55-0, 55-18, 54-14 and 69-8.

The Panthers (0-4) have eight rushing yards as a team.

“They are a well-coached team,” Vogan said of Keystone and its coach, Dan Reed. “Those kids are definitely hungry.”

And so is Moniteau (1-2) after a 40-21 setback to Union/A-C Valley last week.

Vogan's focus in practice this week was to get back to the fundamentals.

That consisted of drills, drills, drills.

“We do that every day,” Vogan said. “We have to do a better job tackling.”

Chance Nagy bounced back at quarterback for the Warriors last week after a three-interception game in the win at Punxsutawney in Week 2.

Nagy threw for 126 yards and a touchdown in the loss last week.

“He's our man,” Vogan said. “We're staying with him. It's his huddle and his game.”

His main target in the passing game, senior Dalton Anderson, continues to impress.

Anderson has hauled in 11 passes for 317 yards and three TDs this season.

He's also a threat to run the ball — he had a 10-yard scoring run last week.

Anderson is also a standout cornerback and will face a Keystone team that has had limited success in the air.

Nate Wingard has completed 36-of-69 passes for 496 yards and four TDs. His main target has been Corey Rapp, who has 17 receptions for 263 yards and two scores.

Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Keystone.
