Butler PoliceMonday — Police charged Sara Beth Johnson, 22, of Greenville, Mercer County, with misdemeanor drug possession stemming from a traffic stop Aug. 25 on Hansen Avenue. Johnson was one of four occupants in the car that was spotted a short time earlier at a house on North Seventh Avenue, where police were called for suspected drug activity.A search of the suspect’s purse, according to court documents, turned up six stamp bags of heroin, a scale, cooking spoon and tourniquet. One the floor where she was seated, police said they found two empty bags of heroin.Officers also learned that she was wanted on a warrant. She is charged with possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.7:28 a.m. Sunday — Kenneth E. Snyder Jr., 32, was arrested for allegedly assaulting his sister, Michele Snyder. He also is accused of spitting on his infant nephew during a domestic dispute at their home on Maryland Avenue.The arrest followed the second police call to the home that day. The first call followed an argument between Snyder and his girlfriend.Officers left the first time but were called back for the sibling altercation, court documents said. Snyder is accused of placing his hands around his sister’s neck and shoving her backward. Afterward, documents said, he threw a lit cigarette at her.The cigarette struck Michele Snyder in the chest, burning her. The defendant also is accused of spitting in the face of his 7-month-old nephew. The spit possibly got into the infant’s eyes.Police said that while they were at the home, Snyder continued to yell obscenities, even after they told him to be quiet. When officers tried to arrest him, Snyder resisted and had to be stunned with a Taser, documents said.The defendant was arraigned on two counts of simple assault and charges of resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and public drunkenness. He was placed in the Butler County Prison on $3,000 bail following arraignment.2:44 a.m. Saturday — Melissa N. Wolfe, 26, was arrested after she allegedly assaulted her husband, David Wolfe, during a domestic dispute at their home on Howard Street.She is accused of hitting her husband in the face, causing a small cut under his right eye. Wolfe was arraigned on a charge of simple assault and released on her own recognizanceThursday — Charles W. Burgess Jr., 23, of Butler was arrested after he allegedly shoplifted an energy drink at the Dollar General store on North Main Street.Police said when the store manager tried to stop Burgess from leaving with the $2 item, he took off running. The next day, a patrol officer spotted the suspect at West Jefferson and Chestnut streets, and arrested him.Burgess admitted taking the drink, according to court documents. The defendant who has two prior convictions for shoplifting, was arraigned on a felony count of retail theft, and placed in the Butler County Prison on $2,500 bail.

Butler Township PoliceTuesday — Police charged Jason T. Ewing, 30, of Butler Township with passing a bogus check April 16 at the Giant Eagle store at Moraine Pointe Plaza. The check was for $133.91.Ewing was arraigned on a felony charge of forgery and misdemeanor charges of access device fraud, theft by deception, receiving stolen property and bad checks. He was placed in the Butler County Prison on $5,000 bail following arraignment.8:52 p.m. Monday — Tina M. English, 30, of Butler landed in trouble with the law after she got into a fight with a man at her home on 40th Street. Police cited English for harassment and disorderly conduct.

State Police, Butler8:27 p.m. Tuesday — No injuries were reported when a motorcycle with two riders crashed on 422 at Dick Road in Franklin Township. A police report was not available this morning.The driver told authorities that he laid down his cycle when a car pulled in front of him near the former Trader Horn store. No other vehicles were there when emergency crews arrived.The driver and his wife, who was riding in back, were not hurt and refused medical treatment. The middle-aged riders, whose names were not known, were both wearing helmets.Monday — Police charged Milagros M. Velasquez, 49, of Kittanning with drunken and drugged driving stemming from a traffic stop two weeks ago in Buffalo Township.Velasquez was pulled over about 3:35 a.m. Sept. 1 after a trooper spotted her car “all over the roadway” while traveling south on Route 28 and approaching the Slate Lick exit, court documents said.The suspect, police said, appeared “dazed and confused, and reeked of alcohol.” She admitted being on prescription medication.Police arrested Velasquez after she was given a portable breath test and failed field sobriety tests. She was later taken to ACMH Hospital in East Franklin Township, Armstrong County, for a blood test.Toxicology reports subsequently showed her blood-alcohol level was 0.17 percent, or double the state’s legal limit. She also had the presence of sedative and anti-anxiety medication and a narcotic painkiller in her system.Velasquez is charged with driving under the influence of both alcohol and drugs, driving on the wrong side of the road, driving the wrong way on a one-way road, making an illegal U-turn and careless driving.

State Police, Franklin7:11 p.m. Sunday — James R. Johnson Jr., 31, of Clintonville was arrested after he allegedly violated a protection from abuse order at a Village Acres Drive home in Clintonville. He was arraigned on a charge of indirect criminal contempt and released on his own recognizance.
