Freeport golfers advance

Mars, Butler get soccer wins

Denny Wuyscik and Morgan Penn each shot a 78 for Freeport at Buffalo Golf Course Monday at the WPIAL Section 1-AA individual qualifier.

Both Wuyscik and Penn advanced to the WPIAL Class AA championships.

This is the second consecutive year Wuyscik has qualified.

Girls Soccer

Tori Kopchak scored all three goals as Mars downed Knoch 3-0.

Sammy Papik had four saves in goal for the Planets (3-1-1, 3-1).

Butler 2, North Hills 1 (2 OT) — Elizabeth Simms scored off a corner kick with just 30 seconds remaining in the second overtime to give the Golden Tornado (5-2) a dramatic win.

After North Hills took a 1-0 lead, Hannah Hays scored off an assist by Simms to tie the game with seven minutes left in regulation.

Freeport 3, Springdale 1 — Sydney Shemanski scored two goals and Olivia Gaspersic also scored for the Yellowjackets (5-2, 5-0).

Karns City 8, Forest 1 — Anna Knoll scored a goal and also had five assists as the Gremlins rolled.

Haley Sherer and Megan McCartney each scored a pair of goals for Karns City (6-0).

Boys Soccer

Spenser Myers, Jace Ebbitt, Noah Pollock and Nathaniel Rondinelli spurred the Karns City 10-0 win over Redbank Valley.

Tennis

Sydney Hanratty and the doubles tandem of Jill Ford-Jenna Kunst picked up wins for Butler in a 3-2 loss to Hampton.
