SV School Board

JACKSON TWP — The Seneca Valley School Board at its meeting Monday night:

Approved a resolution allowing Janney Montgomery Scott to sell two bonds to refinance some of its debt.

The district is not borrowing any money, only moving money around to save on interest, attorney Christopher Brewer said.

The bond issues will save the district about $824,000 in its annual debt service payments and help it avoid an anticipated spike in payments during the 2018-19 school year.

Approved a first reading of a revision to its board policy that deals with substance abuse/use.

The proposed change to the policy would add a sentence stating that any student who refused to submit to a drug test or was found to falsify a test would suffer the same consequences as if they had failed a test.

This provision is already included in board policy no. 227.1, which deals with drug testing participants in sports and other extra-curricular activities, so the change is proposed to make the two policies consistent, said Linda Andreassi, district director of communications.
