Rockets win 1st

Mars' Alayna Chizmar sets up a teammate for a shot against Lincoln Park in volleyball action Thursday night. The Plabnets scored a 3-0 victory for their first win of the season.
SR volleyball tops Oil City; Mars gets win

Carlee McClymonds had 11 kills as the Slippery Rock High volleyball team downed Oil City 25-20, 25-19, 19-25, 25-19 Thursday night.

Lex Romeo added seven kills and Morgan Malinski pitched in 16 assists for the Rockets (1-3, 1-2).

Knoch 3, New Castle 0 — Sarah Armahizer had eight kills and eight blocks to lead the Knights to a 25-12, 25-14, 15-15 sweep.

Bethany Nulph added seven kills and Jessie Jack 15 service points for the Knights (5-0, 4-0).

A-C Valley 3, Forest Area 0 —Sydney Rankin had 25 service points and 11 aces to go with 12 assists for the Falcons in a 25-10, 25-8, 25-4 win.

Kylie Eaton added nine kills and Josey Terwilliger seven kills for A-C Valley (4-0).

Freeport 3, Valley 0 — Hannah Mason had five kills and seven service points to lead the Yellowjackets to a 25-6, 25-7, 25-15 victory.

Karns City 3, Venango Catholic 0 — Emily Hegedus had 20 service points, including 12 consecutive with six aces, in the Gremlins' 25-7, 25-6, 25-5 sweep.

Brooke Moore added 16 assists and Claudia Kamenski 15 points and five kills for Karns City.

Mars 3, Lincoln Park 0 — The Planets captured their first victory of the season with this sweep.

Boys Soccer

Caleb Robb scored three times to lead Knoch to its first win of the season, a 7-0 shutout of Armstrong.

Kamdon Mack, Jesse Fesel, Jacob Goldinger and Matt Gore all scored once for the Knights (1-5-1, 1-1-1).

Mars 1, Indiana 0 — Chris Check scored the only goal to lift the Planets to this road section win.

Slippery Rock 3, Sharpsville 1 — Nick Stutz, Chase Baxa and Garrett Daugherty each scored a goal for the Rockets (4-2, 2-0).

Boys Golf

Morgan Penn shot a season-low 36 to lead Freeport to a 207-234 win over Burrell.

Penn's score was also the lowest shot by any Yellowjacket golfer this season.

Logan Hewitt also had a good round, firing a 39 for Freeport (11-2, 9-0).

North Hills 224, Butler 224 — Nic Leone shot a 40, but after playing to a tie with North Hills, the Golden Tornado lost in a two-hole playoff to fall to 4-5 overall and 2-5 in the section.

Seneca Valley 181, Shaler 202 — The Raiders managed this blowout win thanks to five golfers all coming in with sub-40 scores at Cranberry Highlands Golf Course.

Mark McNulty led the way with a two-under-par 33, followed by Scott Hangliter's 34. Zach Brown, Adam Bushee and Paul Lopiccolo each carded a 38 for the Raiders (8-2, 6-1).

Girls Golf

Hannah Folk shot a 41 and Maggie Feczko a 42, but Butler fell 176-179 to Pine-Richland.
