Freeport soccer improves to 3-0

Cole Bennick scored twice, both times on an assist from Bryce Hanby, as the Freeport boys soccer team handed visiting Knoch a 2-1 non-section defeat on Saturday.

Austin Uric made six saves to preserve the win for the Yellowjackets (3-0).

Kamdon Mack scored for Knoch (0-4-1).

Karns City 9, Brookville 2 — Spenser Myers and Noah Pollock both scored three times for the Gremlins.

Jace Ebbitt, Marcus Lantz and Nathaniel Rondinelli scored one goal apiece.

Butler went 4-3 at a varsity tournament at Moon High School.

The Golden Tornado tallied a 4-2 record in pool play, sweeping Trinity in two games and splitting with Franklin Regional and eventual champion Shenango.

Butler then dropped a 25-23 decision in a one-game playoff against Central Valley.

Stars for the Tornado included Emily Archer (24 kills, 14 digs), Maria Lucas (14 kills, 35 digs) and Caitlyn Martin (16 kills, 18 digs).

Archer and Lucas were named to the all-tournament team.

Butler opens Section 1-AAAA play Tuesday at North Hills.

Sydney Shemanski scored twice for Freeport in a 7-1 rout of East Allegheny in Section 2-AA action.

Lexi Dell, MacKenzie Hardin, Hannah Stokes, Olivia Gaspersic and Cameron Lindsay each added one score.

Cassie Suran had four saves in net for the Yellowjackets (2-1, 2-0).

Karns City 12, Brookville 2 — Kaylee Smith and Megan McCartney both contributed two goals and two assists for KC (2-0).

Chelsey Dodds, Haley Scherer and Alexis Fennell all added two goals. Collette Stahlman and Alexis Moore scored once.

Summit Academy quarterback Tacore Penn hooked up with Kevin Gardner for a pair of touchdowns (64 and 13 yards), but it was far from enough as the Knights were defeated by visiting Rochester, 42-18.

Rams' signal caller Ian Kouba ran for one touchdown and passed for three more to improve Rochester to 2-0 in the Big Seven Conference.

Raymond Guillaume scored on a 1-yard run for Summit (0-2), which travels to Cornell on Friday.
