Adjustments help Moniteau win 27-6

Turner scores 6 times during Grove City win

Wade Vogan couldn't temper his excitement following the Moniteau football team's 27-6 KSAC Large School Division Friday night at Punxsutawney.

It felt like a redemption week for everyone. Kicker Steven Fawcett made two field goals after missing two extra points the week before.

More importantly, the Warriors' defense turned the Chucks away inside the 10-yard line twice.

“Defensively, we made a few adjustments,” Vogan said. “We bent, but we didn't break. It was a big turnaround, we were doing a lot of arm tackling last week.”

Moniteau (1-1, 1-1) never trailed. The Warriors built a 10-yard first-quarter lead behind a 5-yard touchdown run from Corey Goyak and a 29-yard field goal from Fawcett.

Nick Martino also scored twice for Moniteau.

Punxsutawney scored its lone touchdown in the second quarter on a Jake Pearce 11-yard catch to cut the lead to 17-6.

West Mifflin 42, Knoch 0 — The Knights fell to 0-2 in a game that was stopped with 2:46 left in the third quarter due to lightning.

The Titans built a 42-0 lead by halftime.

Grove City 48, Conneaut Area 6 — A.J. Turner turned in a season's worth of highlights in 48 minutes at Linesville.

Turner scored six touchdowns — four receiving and on fumble and interception returns — to help the Eagles move to 3-0. After a scoreless first quarter, Turner scored four times in eight minutes to put Grove City ahead 28-0.

He caught a 29 yard pass from Kameron Patterson for the Eagles' first score with 8:16 left in the half. Then he followed that by returning a fumble 56 yards, an interception 75 yards and catching another 56-yard scoring strike from Patterson.

Turner finished with 209 yards receiving. Patterson threw for 207 yards and three scores for Grove City.
