Knoch faces road test

Knoch's Zach Boldy (11) hopes to break loose on some pass plays Friday night when the Knights take on West Mifflin.
Stingy West Miffl in defense true challenge after tough loss

JEFFERSON TWP — Three botched PATs proved costly to Knoch last Friday night.

The Knights are hopeful they can try a few PATs this Friday night when they travel to West Mifflin for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff.

The Titans (2-0) have yet to allow a point defensively, having defeated South Allegheny 46-0 and Trinity 28-2 to begin the season. Coach Ray Braszo lost only four seniors from last year's 6-4 team.

“They're not real fancy, but what they do, they do very well,” Knoch coach Mike King said. “They are sound defensively, are well-coached and they run the option well.”

In the season opener, West Mifflin forced five turnovers. Dorian Johnson, Brody Bellante and Parrish Parker had interceptions while Devon Slater and Mike Marshall recovered fumbles.

Howard Reid leads the Titans offensively thus far, running for 214 yards and six touchdowns on just 29 carries. He has scored three touchdowns in both of West Mifflin's first two games.

Knoch was flagged 13 times for 130 yards in penalties in last week's 28-27 overtime loss to Blackhawk. Mac Christy led the Knights with 94 yards and a touchdown on 18 carries. He connected with Zach Boldy for a 33-yard touchdown pass as well.

“We didn't have our No. 1 kicker that night. He was playing in a soccer tournament. That was part of our frustrations in the kicking game,” King said. “Mac led us in tackles from his inside linebacker position. Mark Kroneberg had a good game and Jayden Renfrew ran well for us.

“There were a lot of positives we could take out of that Blackhawk game. It came down to missed PATs. That's football.”

The Knights have played West Mifflin only once before — a 28-14 playoff loss in 2012.
