Construction progresses Wednesday at the site of the new Steamfitters trade school near Route 19 in Jackson Township. Bob Hoehl of Surface Technologies works to seal and polish concrete floors on the school's mezzanine level. At left, electrical worker Denise McCrea reviews notes.

JACKSON TWP — Work on the first phase of the new Steamfitters trade school continues in the township.

The training facility near Route 19, Wise Road, Little Creek Road and Mercer Road will offer apprenticeship classes to students interested in such industries as heating, refrigeration, air conditioning and process piping.

About 60 students will be accepted into classes.

The first phase includes a 75,000-square-foot building with classrooms and labs that is scheduled to be done in January. The second phase will have union offices, union halls and meeting halls.

Steamfitters Local 449 based in Pittsburgh is heading the project. Construction is being done by Pittsburgh-based Mascaro Construction.
