Mars Hall of Fame inductions Sept. 16ADAMS TWP — The 2016 Mars Sports Hall of Fame induction ceremony will take place at 5 p.m. Sept. 16 at Mars Middle School.The inductees will also be recognized at 6:30 p.m. on the field at the Mars Athletic Complex, prior to the Planets' 7 p.m. football game against Montour.This year's inductees include Michael Baumgartel (Class of 2001, football), Dave Pisarcik (Class of 2006, wrestling), Brittany Zaborowski (Class of 2006, track and field), the 1977 girls varsity basketball team and 1971 boys 1,600-meter relay team of Ed Best, Ed Totin, Bob Harbison and John Schlessler.Nominations are accepted annually through April 30 of the previous school year. Chevrolet dealers sponsoring soccerThree local Chevrolet dealerships are sponsoring youth soccer programs in their respective regions through the Chevrolet Youth Soccer Program.Kelly Chevrolet-Cadillac will have a season-long partnership with the Butler County Soccer Association, as will Troy-Alan Chevrolet with the Slippery Rock Youth Soccer Association and Kenny Ross Chevrolet-Buick North with the Seneca Valley Soccer Association.These sponsorships will include monetary and equipment donations for the 2016 season. The 2016 Chevrolet Youth Soccer Program will assist more than 225 organizations in the northeastern region with contributions surpassing $340,000.

Venezuela Olympians getting new homesCARACAS, Venezuela — None of Venezuela’s 87 Olympic athletes won gold this year, but they’re getting another prize — new homes from the government.Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro announced that all the country’s participants in the Olympics will get free housing upon their return from Rio de Janeiro. The apartments are part of the government housing program that is a cornerstone of the country’s socialist revolution.Maduro says this way the athletes will feel the love of their country.Venezuela won three medals at the Rio Olympics: silver in the triple jump, bronze in boxing and bronze in BMX cycling.

McGregor getting medical suspensionLAS VEGAS — Conor McGregor has received a medical suspension of up to six months following his five-round victory over Nate Diaz at UFC 202.McGregor outpointed Diaz in a bloody, tiring slugfest Saturday and came out with issues in his foot and ankle, including a possible fracture, and also said after the fight that his shin was sore from landing so many kicks. He hobbled into his post-fight press conference on crutches and needed assistance walking out.The medical suspensions aren’t uncommon. McGregor can have his waived if he is cleared by an orthopedic doctor. Otherwise, he’s unable to train with contact until Oct. 5 and is suspended from fighting until Oct. 20, when he can be re-evaluated.Diaz came out of the fight with his face bloodied and swollen but was only issued a 30-day suspension.
