SR man dies in wreck

BRADY TWP — A 66-year-old Slippery Rock Township man was killed Tuesday afternoon when the motorcycle he was driving collided with a box truck on Route 8 and Duffy Road. Daniel R. Yarington died at the scene of the crash not far from his house about 1:40 p.m., state police said. He was not wearing a helmet. Police said Yarington was traveling south on Route 8 approaching Duffy Road when his Honda cycle hit the side of the truck. Michael Anthony Maddas, 32, of Pittsburgh was driving the company delivery truck westbound on Duffy Road and was attempting to cross Route 8, according to a police report. He was not hurt. Butler County Coroner William Young III pronounced Yarington dead. An autopsy later determined he died of severe injuries to his head and chest, Young said. The crash closed Route 8 from the Old Stone House to Kiester Road for more than two hours as a police accident reconstruction team investigated. Police said they have not determined which driver was at fault, and they declined to release any further information until the investigation is completed. Maddas gave investigators a statement following the wreck. A temporary driver for plumbing distributor Ferguson Enterprises, Maddas was on the job at the time of the crash, said Denise Vaughn, senior director of communications for the company, based in Newport News, Va. The firm, which distributes plumbing supply products nationwide, has 1,400 stores, including one in the Pittsburgh area. Vaughn said the company is cooperating with police in their investigation. “Our thoughts go out to the victims involved,” she said.
