Man stabbed in the city

A man was stabbed in an alley off the 500 block of West Jefferson Street in Butler.

City police did not immediately identify the man, who was taken by ambulance to Butler Memorial Hospital. The extent of his injuries were not known.

Police were initially called to the Cigarette Shop for a report of a man stabbed around 11 a.m. Investigators believe the man and a possible suspect had been in the shop, then walked together to Chase Street, where an altercation occurred.

The victim, believed to be middle aged, was stabbed in the arm and chest.

Both the victim and the possible suspect are from Butler.

Investigators initially found no blood or witnesses. A detective will interview the victim at the hospital, and a suspect could face a charge of aggravated assault.

A clerk at the store declined comment. And employees at several other neighboring businesses said they were unaware about what happened.
