Joanne S. Lewis

Joanne S. Lewis, 87, of Butler passed away Thursday after a short illness.

She was born Nov. 17, 1928, in Butler, the daughter of the late Clarence E. Keck and the late Alberta C. (Oesterling) Keck.

Joanne was a lifelong member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church of Butler and a January 1946 graduate of Butler High School.

She earned a bachelor's degree in Education at Capital University in Columbus, and she taught elementary school for the Butler School District for 28½ years. Joanne was a member of the King's Daughter Sunday school class at St. Mark's, the Butler Historical Society, a volunteer for the Butler Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, a life member of the Pennsylvania Retired Teachers Association and the National Education Association

Joanne is survived by her sister, Alberta C. Scott, of Seattle, Wash., and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Edward E. Lewis, who passed away in August 1991; two sisters, Sara Bachman and Florence Kradel and three brothers, Carl Keck, Kenneth Keck and Dr. David Keck.

LEWIS — Visitation for Joanne S. Lewis, who died Thursday, July 28, 2016, will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 201 W. Jefferson St., until the time of service at noon. The Rev. Dr. Alden Towberman will officiate.Funeral arrangements were handled by the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St.Burial will take place in the Rose Hill Cemetery.Memorial donations may be made to St. Mark's Lutheran Church, 201 W.
