Netflix plans to do filming in Butler

Filming for the Netflix original series “Mindhunter” is coming to Butler.

A motion to enter into an agreement with the show’s production crew will be voted on by city council at its meeting Thursday evening.

The agreement will allow the production crew to use a combination of the Diamond Street Lot, the McKean Street Deck and the Tier Garage on Aug. 20 for the extras, the crew, and production vehicles, after review by the city solicitor.

Another motion, to approve the blocking of the streets from Jefferson Street to Wayne Street and Washington Street to McKean Street on Aug. 20, also will be put up for a vote Thursday.

The show is set in the 1970s. According to imdb.com, it’s about an agent in the FBI’s Elite Serial Crime Unit tracking down serial killers and rapists.

The lead, according to imdb.com, will be Jonathan Groff. He’s had roles in the Disney hit “Frozen” and the TV series “Glee.”

Butler police Deputy Chief David Adam said scenes will be filmed in and outside of the courthouse on a Saturday.

“I assume that’s so the courts can conduct their normal business and they can have the people be dressed the way they’re supposed to be dressed for that era,” he said.
