Roberta McCandless Winner, 96, of Butler passed away peacefully Friday evening at the Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Born May 30, 1920, in Franklin, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Irwin and Agnes Shunk Farringer.

She was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Prospect, where she was the clerk of session for six years in the 1990s. She served as an elder for both the Mount Chestnut and Prospect Presbyterian churches. She belonged to the Fellowship Sunday School Class at TPCP, the Tuesday Bible Study Group and the Mount Chestnut Senior Center.

Roberta retired after 13 years, working for the Butler Memorial Hospital's Dietary Department. She will be remembered as a faithful volunteer in the Pastoral Care and Hospital Auxiliary.

She enjoyed reading and watching Jeopardy, golf, the Pirates and the Steelers.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Richard A. and Judith McCandless of Butler; her two granddaughters, Melissa McCandless of Butler and Megan (Kevin) Leitem of Fenelton; her brothers, Ray and Richard Farringer; her sister, Maxine Kersey; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Vincent L. McCandless, who she married Nov. 9, 1940, and who passed away Jan. 11, 1974; her second husband, James R. Winner, who she married Jan. 19, 1980, and who passed away May 20, 1985; her son, Vincent Eugene McCandless; her brother, Irwin Farringer Jr.; and her sister Ruth Keene.

WINNER — Friends of Roberta Winner, who died Friday, July 22, 2016, will be received from 3 to 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Edward L. Raisley Funeral Home, 387 Main St., Prospect.A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Presbyterian Church of Prospect, 115 Church St., Prospect, with the Rev. Steve Cort and the Rev. Jeffrey Curtis, both pastors, co-officiating.
