Water main break leaves businesses without water

A break in a 12-inch water main on Birch Street Tuesday morning has left three businesses without running water, a spokesman from PA American Water said.

The break, which occurred on Birch Street near Main Street, means the YWCA, PNC Bank and Young's Funeral Home will likely be without running water for much of Tuesday afternoon, said Gary Lobaugh of PA American Water. He said the company was projecting a fix would take about eight hours.

A YWCA employee who answered the phone Tuesday morning said that the facility, which includes a personal care residence and provides programming for people of all ages, was not changing or canceling any programs as a result of the outage.

A spokesman at the funeral home said damage was limited to wet carpeting in an office area and display area.

The cause of the water main break was not immediately clear. The company said it was in the process of providing water to all the affected businesses.
