Storm caused power outages

Power lines on First and Second streets in Butler were damaged in a brief, but powerful, storm that came through the county about 2 p.m.

This power line, along with others, occurred on First Street in the city's Institute Hill section.

The damage caused the closing of East Brady Street, between First and Second streets.

Elsewhere in the county, several hundred residences were without power as of 3 p.m.

The majority of those outages were in Franklin Township, where 59 households were without power, according to online information kept by the company

Summit Township also had 63 households affected, and Center Township had 26, the company reported. Other municipalities affected included Butler City, Butler township, Prospect Borough and Winfield Township. The company said it was investigating the cause of the outages.
