Teens accused in case to be tried as juveniles

Two teens accused of committing an armed drug rip-off attempt in Butler will be tried as juveniles.

Both boys, then 16 and 17, were charged in adult court, and attorneys for both successfully asked the courts to move the cases to juvenile court.

On Thursday, Butler County Judge Timothy McCune agreed to move the case of the younger boy, a now 17-year-old from Butler, to juvenile court. McCune in May moved the older boy’s case to juvenile court.

The judge’s rulings occurred after Assistant District Attorney Richard Bosco consented to both defense requests.

The boys allegedly had planned to rob 32-year-old Charles G. Petredis Jr. of Butler on Nov. 18.

Police have asserted that Petredis met the boys on East Brady Street in a plan to sell them marijuana. Instead, the older boy and another unidentified male started punching the man and the younger boy allegedly pulled out a pistol. A struggle ensued and at some point the gun fired, hitting the 17-year-old in the right forearm.

The Butler Eagle is not identifying the teens because of their ages.
