Police seize drugs, cash in Butler raid

Hundreds of bags of heroin, a dozen bags of crack cocaine and more than $7,600 in currency was among the cache of contraband seized in Tuesday’s raid of a suspected drug house in Butler.

State police vice officers also found convicted drug felon Mark A. Carter in the home in the 300 block of East Brady Street.

“He’s a major supplier of heroin and crack cocaine in this area,” Tim Fennell, who heads the Butler County Drug Task Force, said of Carter.

The 29-year-old defendant of Butler was arrested on felony drug and gun charges. He is in the Butler County Prison on $100,000 bail.

Police also got a pair of felony arrest warrants for Brandon J. Morris, 31, who lives at the home. He was not home when officers showed up about 6 a.m. with a search warrant.

Fennell pegged the street value of the seized drugs at “tens of thousands of dollars.” Police also found a 12-gauge shotgun in Morris’ room. Because of his criminal record, Carter is prohibited from possessing or being around any firearms.

Court records showed that Carter has a felony conviction in a 2006 drug case in Philadelphia. He was sentenced to 4 to 10 years in state prison.

A complete report appears in Wednesday's Butler Eagle.
