Lordy, Lordy Community Days is 40

Cam Vozel and Alyssa Speer, both of Cranberry Township, ride the Super Spinner during last year's Community Days. This year's event is July 7 to 9.

CRANBERRY TWP — The township's Community Days and the Cranberry Township Community Chest continue to grow and reach milestones.

This year marks the 40th anniversary of both.

The free Community Days celebration is set for July 7 to 9 in Cranberry Township Community Park on Route 19.

The first Community Days in 1976 was in recognition of the U.S. bicentennial, said township Supervisor Bruce Mazzoni.

The Community Chest, coincidentally, also was started that year, though the two did not become linked until 10 years ago, he said.

Community Days will include art exhibits, a car cruise, an area with activities for children, a carnival with games and rides, and live music and theater performances.

The festivities on Saturday will conclude with fireworks at 9:30 p.m.

“They will be the biggest that we've done, in celebration of both 40th anniversaries of Community Days and the CTCC,” Mazzoni said.

There will be more than 200 vendors and about 40 nonprofit groups that will participate with booths or with the activities. Proceeds go to the Community Chest and to the nonprofit organizations that participate.

The Community Chest hopes to raise $100,000 from the event, which will kick off the fundraising for the 2017 Project of the Year, which is the installation of numerous sport courts in Graham Park.

A Martinis with Monet fundraiser will be held July 6 at the municipal center with Cranberry Artists Network.
