BlueSox lose on the road

The Butler BlueSox fell victim to a late rally by host Chillicothe in Prospect League baseball action Tuesday night.

The Paints scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the eighth inning before closing out a 3-2 win.

The Sox held a slim 2-1 lead entering the bottom of the eighth frame. Butler relief pitcher Zach Patterson recorded the first two outs before running into trouble.

Patterson issued back-to-back walks to Stewart Nelson and Michael Blatchford, prompting Butler manager Jason Radwan to call on Kyle Zurak from the bullpen.

Zurak was unable to escape the jam, however, walking Jack Thompson to load the bases before giving up a two-run single to Jamie Lackner.

Butler did not go quietly in the top of the ninth, loading the bases with one out against Chillicothe’s David Current.

But the closer got Nick Spangler to ground into a fielder’s choice with Pavin Parks being thrown out at home plate. Will Schneider was then retired via flyout to end the game.

Schneider went 3-for-5 and is now batting .420. Jake Kennedy hit a solo home run in the top of the fourth, which gave Butler a 2-0 lead.

Dillon Sunnafrank pitched well in his start on the mound. He allowed just one run on six hits in five innings, striking out three and walking three.

Jack Herzing pitched a scoreless sixth inning and Patterson a scoreless seventh before the latter sustained the loss in the eighth.

Butler (12-11) drops into third place in the East Division standings, a half game behind second-place Chillicothe (12-10).

The Sox travel to Kokomo today.
