Butler graduate awarded Steven Napora scholarship

A Butler School District graduate who plans to attend Rutgers University next fall has been awarded the Steven Napora Memorial Scholarship by Big Brothers-Big Sisters of Butler County.

Amanda Coyne of Butler received the $1,000 award at the June 7 annual meeting of the Butler YMCA. Coyne, who graduated from high school June 14, will attend Rutgers main campus this fall to pursue degrees in chemistry and sociology.

She wants to attend medical school for orthopedic surgery.

Coyne's parents are Laurie Coyne and Christopher Coyne.

Seniors in the Big Brothers-Big Sisters program can apply for the scholarship. They must be in good academic standing, have demonstrated community or school involvement and good citizenship, have a financial need and be accepted to a school of higher education.

The program awards one scholarship each year.

Big Brothers-Big Sisters of Butler County is a program of the Butler YMCA, 339 N. Washington St.
