Butler PoliceThursday — Police charged Patricia Ann Eckels, 72, of Brady Township in connection with a suspected employee theft at the Kmart store uncovered earlier this month.Officials at the store in the Pullman Square shopping plaza notified police after discovering a number of cash register shortages linked to Eckels. Store surveillance video also showed the defendant taking money from a register and walking away with it. She also is suspected of taking food without paying.Police said they spoke to Eckels, who admitted taking the money “to pay for bills,” documents said. She told investigators that she stole $200 in currency and $10 worth of food items.9:23 p.m. Thursday — Scott L. Bailey Jr., 22, of Lyndora was arrested on a warrant after police were called for a reported “large fight” at Ridge Avenue and Mercer Street.Several men fled as police arrived and officers spoke to Bailey, who they found was wanted on a bench warrant. A search turned up a bag of suspected marijuana, and a marijuana pipe was found in this back pack.Bailey was placed in Butler County Prison on the warrant. Police also charged him with possession of a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.May 5 — Police charged Bryant L. Atwell Jr., 29, of Slippery Rock Township with bouncing a check for $253.34 that he passed March 24 at Kenmac Rentals & Sales on South Main Street. The check was written on a bank account that did not have sufficient funds. Atwell is charged with bad checks.7 p.m. May 4 — William E. Burke, 36, of Cabot was caught shortly after he allegedly shoplifted an Apple iLive compact disc player/radio at the Kmart store at Pullman Square. He is accused of placing the $80 item in a back pack and leaving the store.Police said they later found Burke with the back pack. Along with the merchandise, the back pack contained three empty stamp bags of suspected heroin, a crack pipe and two used syringes.Burke is charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and retail theft.9:17 a.m. Wednesday — An alleged fight on the 400 block of South Chestnut Street ended with three women charged in the altercation. Mary S. Fotta, 38, of Butler is charged with simple assault, disorderly conduct and harassment.The other two suspects — Danielle Napier, 22, and Rachel M. Roman, 36, both of Butler — each are charged with disorderly conduct.

State Police, ButlerSunday — An unspecified amount of coins was stolen from a water cooler jug in a burglary at a woman’s home on Snyder Lane in Clearfield Township. The break-in happened between May 20 and Sunday.

State Police, Kittanning1 p.m. May 11 — Bradley J. Moore, 31, of Templeton was arrested after he allegedly choked a 31-year-old Kittanning woman and threatened to shoot her during a domestic dispute in Boggs Township.Moore was arraigned on charges of terroristic threats, simple assault and harassment. He was placed in Armstrong County Jail following arraignment and released May 16 after posting $10,000 bail.

State Police, New Castle6:35 a.m. Thursday — Larry E. Hoffman, 64, of Butler was hurt when he lost control of his motorcycle while trying to avoid a wounded deer on the road in Perry Township. Lawrence County.Police said Hoffman was westbound on Route 488 just east of Wehman Lane when a vehicle in front of him hit the deer, which was still alive and in the traffic lane. He laid down his Honda Valkyrie cycle on its right side and started to slide.Hoffman, who was wearing a helmet, was thrown off the bike and onto the side of the road. The motorcycle continued into a guardrail. He suffered a minor injury.
