A woman was injured early this morning when she lost control of her minivan and crashed into the porch of a Butler home.

Karen Wolosik, 47, of Butler told rescue crews that her brakes possibly failed. The Dodge van about 3:15 a.m. slammed into the porch of the home in the 600 block of West Penn Street.

“She was in a lot of pain,” said Lt. Scott Marshall of the Butler Fire Department, “mostly her neck and back.”

Wolosik was taken by ambulance to Butler Memorial Hospital. Her condition was not known this morning.

Two men who live at the rental home were there but neither was hurt.

Butler police are investigating but an accident report was not immediately available.

Authorities said Wolosik was traveling west on West Penn Street when the van crossed over the eastbound lane and went off the road. The vehicle continued into the porch.

“The house stopped (the van),” Marshall said. “Half of the porch was ripped off; it took out support posts.”

The driver's side of the van was wedged up against the porch, preventing Wolosik from freeing herself. Rescuers got the passenger side door open and helped her out.

Officials said alcohol or drugs were not considered factors in the accident.

The house, owned by Stephen Green, was deemed structurally sound and both tenants were allowed to return after emergency crews left.
