'Pickers' pay visit to Emlenton

Stars spend all day in borough

EMLENTON — Borough residents got a surprise Wednesday when the cast and crew of the History Channel TV show “American Pickers” rolled into town and spent the day browsing the homes of collectors and shooting segments for an episode.

Borough manager Nancy Marano said stars Mike Wolfe and Frank Fritz arrived with crew members early Wednesday morning, and were still in town as of 9 p.m., according to the borough’s police department.

Wolfe and Fritz, who set up their iconic RV in the parking lot of Emlenton’s Post Office, near Farmer’s National Bank on Main Street, spent much of their time Wednesday at the home of Jae Brown and Andor Jobb. The pickers also visited Donaldson Motors on River Street to see the Christmas train set featured in front of the business, the Emlenton Bike Shop, and ate lunch at Little It Deli on Main Street.

Marano said the show’s production crew was tight-lipped about future episodes and how or when any footage shot in Emlenton might be used in the show, which airs Wednesdays on the History Channel.

Marano said she spent time with one crew member giving her a history of the borough and a tour of Emlenton’s Crawford Center. She also gave the show a bottle of crude oil from Emlenton’s Crawford Well.

Marano said she was pleased at how accommodating the show’s cast and crew were with residents, who were drawn to the shoot in great numbers.

“They were great. I do believe all 648 residents got their picture taken with Mike,” Marano said. “They had a timeline to meet, and they were still willing to take those few moments with people.”
