Philharmonic celebrates anniversary with BC3 concert

BUTLER TWP — The Pittsburgh Philharmonic will present one of its final concerts of the season at 8 p.m. Friday in the Succop Theater at Butler County Community College.

“Russian Finale” and a reception will celebrate the orchestra's 40th anniversary season.

The concert will feature the music of Rimsky-Korsakov, Glinka, Stravinsky, and the Glazunov Violin Concerto performed with soloist Alyssa Wang.

Wang earned her bachelor of fine arts from Carnegie Mellon University with a major in violin performance and a double minor in conducting and creative writing.

She has performed in Great Britain, Spain, Germany, Austria, Canada and Norway. She was the winner of the Carnegie Mellon School of Music Concerto Competition, the Pittsburgh Female College Association Prize, and the Carnegie Mellon Women's Award.

The Pittsburgh Philharmonic is a volunteer orchestra of about 70 musicians from the tri-state area. Members include business professionals, retirees, students, teachers, and others, some of whom have been performing with the group for more than 20 years. The philharmonic performs classical music throughout the region.
