Butler County Symphony Orchestra’s free summer lunchtime concert series takes place at the symphony office, 259 S. Main St., and will run Wednesdays from June 1 through Aug. 31. Shows begin at noon.

Zelienople will be the site of the Ayres Foundation Concert Series at the James A. Ayres Amphitheater in Zelienople Community Park. Donations will be accepted, and concessions will be available.

The Musicians’ Concert Band, led by conductor Jeff Kroner, has summer concerts scheduled at the Butler Intermediate High School.

Concerts will begin at 7:30 p.m. June 9 and 23, July 7 and 28, and Aug. 4 featuring Gibbons Big Band.

Concerts take place in the Butler Intermediate High School auditorium.

Admission is $5.

Theater

Butler Little Theatre will present a youth production of “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” by Roald Dahl and adapted by Richard George, July 14-17.

Executive producer is Connie Donovan and student director is Shannon Donovan.

Freeport Theatre Festival will stage the following shows for its 27th summer season. All shows start at 7 p.m.

“Massey Harbison,” a historical drama written and directed by Rennick Steele, July 8, 9, 10, 15, 16, 17, 22, 23 and 24.

“Spirit of St. Mary’s,” a new historical drama written and directed by Steele, Aug. 12, 13, 14, 19, 20, 21, 26, 27 and 28.

Hobnob Theatre Company will return to Preston Park again this summer with William Shakespeare’s “The Taming of the Shrew” planned July 22 to 24 and 29 to 31.

Auditions for this show will be at 7 p.m. May 22 and 23 at St. Peter’s Anglican Church, 218 E. Jefferson St.

Roles are available for six to eight women and nine to 11 men.

Keystone State Music Theater will conduct auditions for its “All Star Student Big Broadway Orchestra” June 8 at the KSMT Academy.

Sing Hosanna! will present “Peter Panic,” a comedy musical, at 7:30 p.m. June 18 and at 2 p.m. June 19 at the Succop Theater at Butler County Community College.

A comedy dinner theater will be held at noon and 5 p.m. Aug. 13.

Summer theater camp will be July 11 to 16. Registration is required.

This year’s Summer Dramatics Project will be “The Wizard of Oz” at 7:30 p.m. July 28, 29 and 30 and at 2 p.m. July 31 in the Succop Theater at Butler County Community College.

Auditions will be May 22 and 26 at St. Peter’s Hall on Franklin Street, for children ages 7 to 12 at 5:30 p.m. and for those ages 13 to 25 at 6:30 p.m. Be prepared to sing and dance. No previous experience necessary.

The Model Theatre Troupe from Baden will perform at 7:30 p.m. June 10 and 11 and at 3 p.m. June 12in the Royl Lane Stables on Harkins Mill Road, Zelienople.

The troupe also will perform at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 215 N. Main St. in Zelienople at 7:30 p.m. June 17 and 18 and at 3 p.m. June 19.

Art

Butler Art Center will be the site of summer camps, and art parties for kids and adults.

Exhibitions are planned on Art & Geology in Badlands National Park from May 27 to June 24, and the annual Invitational Show from Aug. 10 to 26.

Music is planned June 3, 11, 17 and 18; July 15 and 26; and Aug. 5 and 19.

The Art Center, 344 S. Main St., is open noon to 4 p.m. Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays and noon to 6 p.m. Fridays, with receptions for exhibitions usually taking place from 7 to 9 p.m. Fridays the first night of the show.

Maridon Museum, 322 N. McKean St., has a collection that includes Asian art and pieces of German Meissen porcelain.

Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays, except holidays.

Admission is $4 for adults, $3 for senior citizens and students, and free for children younger than 8. Guided tours are available with advanced notice for no extra charge.
