Moniteau wins KSAC title again

Jake Jewart tallied a single, double, two runs scored and one batted in as Moniteau's baseball team claimed its third straight Keystone Shortway Athletic Conference title with a 10-4 win over host Keystone on Tuesday.

Jewart started the game and pitched three scoreless innings. Nathan Sosigian worked four scoreless frames of relief to earn the win.

Boys Volleyball

Butler's season came to an end with a hard-fought 3-1 loss at Peters Township in a WPIAL Class AAA first-round playoff.

Nash Bryan totaled 25 kills and Matt Wetzel 44 assists for the Golden Tornado, who lost the match by scores of 25-23, 21-25, 21-25 and 21-25.

Dan Kline added 11 digs for Butler (11-8) and Andrew Chwalik six blocks.

Softball

Cortney Claypoole belted her fifth home run of the season, scoring three runs and driving in four in Moniteau's 11-0, five-inning win at Keystone.

Kennedy DeMatteis earned the pitching win, striking out eight and allowing one hit, which snapped her streak of 24 straight no-hit innings.

The Warriors (19-1, 8-0) will be the top seed in the upcoming District 9 Class AA playoffs.
