Teen allegedly used movie money to dupe woman

A teenager is accused of using movie prop money to cheat his friend’s grandmother out of $100 last week, Butler police said.

The suspect, 18-year-old Hunter P. Snow of Butler Township, was at the victim’s home in the 200 block of West Diamond Street on Friday when he asked her if she had change for $100.

The woman gave him five 20-dollar bills. The teen handed her a novelty 100-dollar bill, according to court documents.

The 66-year-old victim told police that she put the bill into her purse without looking at it, following the exchange. She uncovered the funny money later when she went to the store.

There, documents said, she looked at the bill and saw written on it: “For Cinematic Use Only.” Printed on that same bill was “For Motion Picture Use Only.”

Police on Monday filed a theft-related charge against Snow.

“It’s like monopoly money,” he said. “This money was made for a purpose. You just can’t dupe somebody with it.”

Snow claimed he knew nothing about the fake bill and insisted that he did not know where it came from, investigators said.

A complete report will appear in Thursday’s Butler Eagle.
