A-C Valley nips KC in softball

DeMatteis gets 4th no-no in row for Moniteau

A-C Valley’s Kylie Eaton scored from second base on a fielder’s choice in the top of the eighth inning in the Falcons’ 8-7 softball win over host Karns City Monday afternoon.

Lauren McNany added two singles, a triple, three runs and two RBI for A-C Valley (10-7), which overcame a 5-1 deficit after three innings.

Ashley Coon paced Karns City’s 10-hit attack with a double, triple, home run, three runs scored and four batted in.

The Gremlins fell to 8-5 with the defeat.

Moniteau 12, Venango Catholic 0 — Warriors’ pitcher Kennedy DeMatteis tossed her fourth consecutive no-hitter and sixth of the season as Moniteau disposed of the host Vikings in five innings.

DeMatteis struck out nine and now has 175 strikeouts this season.

Sara Hull smacked three hits, including a double, scoring twice and driving in two runs for the Warriors (18-1).

CWNC will next face Western Beaver (9-4).

Baseball

Cody Lawniczak went 3-for-4 with a double and home run in Slippery Rock’s 9-2 Region 6-AAA victory over Conneaut Area.

Lawniczak ended the game with three runs scored and a pair of RBI.

Collin Hyatt added a single, double, two runs scored and one RBI for the Rockets (14-5, 7-1).

Gunner Becker earned the pitching win with eight strikeouts, three walks and two runs allowed on five hits in a complete game.

Track and Field

Slippery Rock’s Emma McDermott took first place in the long jump with a leap of 16 feet, 7 inches and won the triple jump with a 35-5 at the recent Mercer County meet.

The Rockets’ only other first-place winner in the meet was Fred Urbaniak, who ran the 110-meter hurdles in 14.84 seconds.
