YORK — A high school student barred from attending the prom at her Catholic high school because she wore a suit rather than a dress has accepted an invitation to attend another school’s prom.

Brandon Carter, principal at York’s William Penn Senior High School, said he invited Aniya Wolf to the May 21 event because “We do embrace all.”

Wolf said she learned at the last moment that girls were required to wear dresses to attend last Friday’s prom at Bishop McDevitt High School in Harrisburg. She said she decided to go anyway but was thrown out.

The school said in a statement that the dress code was sent to parents three months earlier and it practices “acceptance and love” for all students.
