McKee on key in Laker victory

Butler graduate bests Shippensburg

When Colin McKee stands on the mound for Mercyhurst, good things usually happen for the Lakers.

Sunday night was no exception.

The Butler graduate and junior right-hander struck out nine over eight innings in leading the Lakers to an 8-3 win over Shippensburg in the first round of the PSAC Tournament at Kelly Automotive Park.

McKee allowed five hits and walked four in the victory. He improved to 10-1 on the season.

Austin Alongo paced Mercyhurst (39-10) at the plate, collecting a triple, double, two singles, two RBI and two runs scored.

In other tournament action:

Millersville 22, California 4 — The Vulcans (26-21) lost big, but Butler graduate Mick Fennell tied the school's all-time record for career runs scored and pulled within one hit of Cal's career hit mark.Fennell led off the game with a triple to right-center field. It was his 27th career triple — most among active players in the entire NCAA — and pulled him within one of the NCAA Division II career record.Millersville (45-4) scored seven runs in the third inning to break the game open early.

West Chester 5, Gannon 2 — The Golden Rams (33-11) got two hits each from Zach Sheranko and Drew Diehl. Nick Stallings allowed four hits in six innings to get the win.Karns City graduate Matt Yough worked a third of an inning on the mound late for Gannon (30-16).

East Stroudsburg 5, Seton Hill 2 — Matt Fiesta pitched a complete game for East Stroudsburg (36-14), striking out nine and scattering five hits.Steven Zimmerman had a triple, two singles and scored a pair of runs for the Warriors.The double-elimination tournament continues today. In elimination games, California was scheduled to face Seton Hill at 9:30 a.m. Gannon takes on Shippensburg at 12:30 p.m.In the winner's bracket, East Stroudsburg plays defending champion Millersville at 3:30 p.m. and Mercyhurst faces West Chester at 6:30 p.m.
