County pushes back march for veterans

Butler County still wants 1,000 marching veterans, just a little later.

John Cyprian, director of county veterans services, said at the county commissioners meeting Wednesday that the event now will occur later than originally planned on June 14.

“We’re pushing the date back,” Cyprian said.

He said there was feedback that too many people may be out of town because the June 14 date follows high school graduations with classes out of session.

“Great concept, wrong date,” Cyprian said.

He said Patriot Day on Sept. 11 was considered, however the march would likely become part of Veterans Day on Nov. 11 to induce more people to register.

The march is set to start at the intersection of Main and Penn streets in Butler, proceeding south to the county courthouse.

Activities would follow in Diamond Park.

This would be the first such march in the county.
