Cranberry man, 50, accused of molestation

Police allege 3 children abused

CRANBERRY TWP — Police say a 50-year-old man molested three young children for whom he occasionally provided day care service.

John F. Davis of Cranberry Township was arrested Monday and charged with one count of indecent assault against a person less than 13 years of age, three counts of corruption of minors and three counts of endangering the welfare of children, all felonies. He also is charged with two counts of misdemeanor indecent exposure.

He is free on $100,000 unsecured bail.

Davis allegedly assaulted three different children, between the ages of 2 and 6, on several occasions between September 2014 and April 22, according to the criminal complaint filed by township police.

The alleged assaults happened at Davis’ home on Water View Drive. Another resident of that address, who was not named by police, provided day care service for numerous children.

Davis was often present and “routinely acted as caregiver and supervised these children,” the complaint said.

He allegedly had unlawful contact with two of the children six times and the other child four times.

In an interview with police, he allegedly admitted to several instances when he was alone with a child and exposed himself or engaged in inappropriate touching.

District Judge David Kovach said he set three conditions on Davis’ bail Monday. The conditions are that he is to have no contact with any child under the age of 14, he is to have no contact with the three alleged victims and he is not to come within 500 feet of the alleged victims.

Davis’ lawyer said that he has secured temporary housing and will not be living in Cranberry while the case is pending, Kovach said.

Sgt. Chuck Mascellino of the Cranberry police said he could not discuss the details of the case or say if anyone else is under investigation.

Davis’ preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 27.
