Man sentenced up to 5 years in meth lab case

One of three people linked to an alleged methamphetamine lab in a mobile home in Summit Township will serve up to 5 years in prison.

Edward Halagich, 48, pleaded guilty to operating a methamphetamine lab, storing chemical waste and four counts of child endangerment, according to court records.

Butler County Judge William Shaffer on Thursday sentenced Halagich in accordance with a plea arrangement made earlier with the county district attorney’s office: 18 to 60 months in prison, according to court records.

Court records say the charges were filed in July 2015, after an anonymous tip led police to the home: a trailer on about 5 acres of property on Old East Butler Road.

There, investigators allegedly uncovered chemicals used to make methamphetamine, the remnants of a hydrochloric acid gas generator commonly used to make methamphetamine and other contraband, according to court records.

Halagich, his girlfriend, 34-year-old Jessica Kidd, and her brother, 20-year-old James Kidd, lived in the home with four children, then from 9 months to 4 years old, according to court records.

Neither the prosecutor nor Halagich’s defense attorney Mike Zunder could be reached for comment.

The defendant, according to court records, already has credit for 291 days spent in prison awaiting resolution of this case.

Court records say Jessica and James Kidd are scheduled to appear in sentencing court May 12.

Jessica Kidd, according to court records, pleaded guilty to drug manufacturing and other charges. James Kidd, according to court records, pleaded guilty to operating a meth lab and other charges.
