Butler Twp. PoliceWednesday — Police reported they are investigating an apparent phony travelers check scam last week. According to investigators, two unknown black females on April 19 passed eight, $100 counterfeit American Express Travelers Checks at two stores at the Butler Crossing shopping plaza.The suspects, one who had bleach-blonde hair with dark roots, used the checks at Rue 21 and Ultra Beauty to buy merchandise and obtained cash back in exchange for the difference between the check and the cost of the items.Police noted the pair used suspected counterfeit California identification to complete their transactions. Anyone with information and any other victims of the scam are asked to call police at 724-285-9600.

Grove City PoliceTuesday — A red and black Kenmore grill was stolen in the 100 block of North Street. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 724-458-7925.

State Police, Butler11:30 p.m. Wednesday — Edward S. Cypher, 43, was arrested after he allegedly assaulted a 43-year-old woman during a domestic dispute at a home on Iman Road in Donegal Township. Cypher was arraigned on charges of simple assault and harassment, and he was released on his own recognizance.7:40 p.m. Sunday — Ashlee E. Morrison, 25, of Connoquenessing was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence after she crashed her vehicle on Browns Mill Road just south of Leslie Road in Forward Township.1:52 a.m. Sunday — Adam Santoro, 33, of Belle Vernon, Fayette County, 33, was arrested for suspicion of DUI on Route 8 in Center Township.2:27 a.m. Saturday — Kalina J. Kohler, 32, of Prospect was arrested for suspicion of drunken driving on Route 173 at Route 8 in Brady Township. In addition to DUI, she is charged with failing to keep right, disregarding traffic lanes and careless driving.

State Police, Kittanning3 p.m. Tuesday — Three people, two of them young children, were hurt when Natalie R. Simpson, 25, of East Brady lost control of her pickup truck, struck a mailbox and rolled over an embankment along Kaylor-Petrolia Road just east of Kaylor Road in Bradys Bend Township.Simpson and her two sons, ages 2 and younger, who were both riding in child safety seats, were all taken to ACMH Hospital in East Franklin Township with minor injuries. Police said Simpson, who was wearing a seat belt, was cited for driving on the wrong side of the road.

State Police, MercerSunday — A thief stole a catalytic converter, valued at $250, from a car at the Grove City College parking lot in Pine Township, Mercer County. The emissions control device was taken between April 14 and Sunday.April 13 — Jacob A. Kozain, 23, of Greensburg, Westmoreland County, was arrested after he was found with suspected marijuana and other contraband during a traffic stop on Interstate 79 in Springfield Township.Kozain is charged with possession of a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, and speeding.8:30 p.m. April 12 — A car driven by Michael J. Shunk Jr., 39, of North Washington struck a car on Route 58 just west of Airport Road in Pine Township, Mercer County. Shunk was not injured but his car had to be towed.

State Police, New Castle6:34 a.m. Tuesday — A car driven by Vicky I. Dean, 45, of New Castle struck a deer on Route 422 just west of Mount Herman Church Road in Slippery Rock Township, Lawrence County.3:50 p.m. Monday — Two Butler County men were among three people hurt in a three-vehicle wreck in Mahoning Township. John P. Hudson, 71, of Muddy Creek Township and John A. Hines, 20, of Penn Township were taken to St. Elizabeth Boardman Hospital in Youngstown, Ohio, with minor to moderate injuries.Police said the crash happened when Hudson, driving a sport utility vehicle, tried to go around two other vehicles stopped on Route 224 at Mohawk School Road. Hudson's vehicle struck the back of another SUV driven by Joy L. Cunningham, 55, of Bessemer.The collision pushed Cunningham's vehicle into the rear of a third SUV driven by Joseph L. Dimuccio, 35, of New Castle. Hudson's SUV hit a guardrail and flipped onto its roof.Cunningham, who suffered moderate injuries, also was taken to St. Elizabeth's.
